The bells featured in Virtual Belfry are the twelve bells of St. David's Cathedral, Hobart, Australia. The bells are tuned as a ten with a sharp 3rd and a sharp 7th and were cast by John Taylor & Co. of Loughborough between 1911 and 2003 (with the original eight bells of this notably melodious ring cast in 1935). The tenor, 21-2-8 (1096 kg), is in the key of E. It was cast in 1911 for St. John's, Eastbourne, Suffolk. There are also five fixed bells (out of sight, above, in this photo) which, in combination with the original eight, make a chime of 13. [Dove's details]

Permission to use the St. David's bells for Virtual Belfry was kindly given by the Cathedral Chapter. By agreement, a proportion of the profits from sales of the program will be donated to the cathedral for maintenance of the tower and bells.

The bells were augmented from eight to ten-plus-two in 2005. While the new frame was being installed in the belfry the bells were put on public display downstairs.

The Cathedral is located in central Hobart. Hobart's other tower, Holy Trinity Church, is also visible in this photograph.

The bells of both towers are rung regularly by the Hobart Bellringers.
